The concert will feature
traditional Brazilian music and world premier performances of works by
Raimundo Penaforte and Ricardo Calderoni.
About João:
Praised for his
elegant and expressive musicianship by Grammy award winner Sharon Isbin, João
Kouyoumdjian is a Brazilian-Armenian guitarist of distinction. In the words of
guitar virtuoso Paulo Martelli "João Kouyoumdjian is one of the most
extraordinary Brazilian guitarists of his generation. His interpretations
always displayed refined sensibility and profound aesthetic meaning". A graduate of The Juilliard
School and winner of the 2010 Souza Lima National Competition, João
Kouyoumdjian has been intensively concertizing in the USA, Brazil and Central
America. He recently performed his Carnegie Hall debut recital presented by the 28th Musical Armenia concert series and performed
at other emblematic NYC venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and
the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An avid chamber music performer, João
Kouyoumdjian has collaborated with soprano Nadine Sierra in the Song Continues
Festival at the Weill Recital Hall and partnered with the Juilliard Dance
Division in the Composers-Choreographers Project at Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
Mr. Kouyoumdjian is Artist in Residence of the Grace Church in Newark Music
Society, presenting concerts and collaborations with the Grace Church’s
professional choir. In Brazil, João Kouyoumdjian appears in traditional
festivals and international concert series such as Seminário Souza Lima and
Movimento Violão.
